PSYCHOLOGICAL TECHNOLOGies

Illustrations and infographics

When I worked for Psychological Technologies, at times I had to put my illustrator hat on and created more than a hundred original pieces of visual content.

PSYCHOLOGICAL TECHNOLOGies

An image says
a thousand words

My task was to create illustrations, diagrams and charts for multiple self-development courses. As it is believed that images are processed 60,000 times faster than text, it would be a great aid for our users to grasp difficult concepts that are expressed through text.

Sketches and ideas

It was a great opportunity for me to explore my recently discovered passion - sketching life as it happens on a daily basis.
I was always interested in emotions and how people express them and now I wanted to capture the emotions by exploring facial expressions and body language.

Process

Monochrome illustrations

After sketching ideas with pencil and paper to express the concept from the course text, the next step was to refine the digital monochrome illustrations. I had to convey the meaning with a minimum effort and still keep the liveliness of the original pencil sketch.

‘Soft’ style
illustrations

Majority of illustrations for the session text were left in the monochrome style for the development stage for a number of reasons. The first reason was to test them on users before investing time into refined illustrations. Secondly, the branding for the self-development platform wasn’t finalised. I have created some possible visual solutions in a ‘soft’ illustration style.

Working with content

Illustrating concepts

Working with our head of content was a new experience for me that I truly enjoyed. We discussed what would be the best way to illustrate different concepts and how I can iterate to bring them to life in a better way.

Dynamic data displays

Engaging and meaningful

The companies scientific approach would require a lot of personal data to be available to users. I worked on various types of charts to display the data from sleep, mood and habit tracking to wellbeing and mental health assessments.

Objectives

Visualising data

The challenge was to make the display of that data to be meaningful, motivating and encourage the user to make further progress. My task included coming up with concepts on how to show the data as well as short summaries and what kind of data we could display.

Final UI

My task was to create some charts from scratch and for others I had to come up with a fresh look and add additional elements for better usability.

Results

While working on the project I created 100+ illustrations and diagrams and worked on multiple dynamic infographics to help the users see their progress and understand complex ideas in the courses. I was very happy to test my skills in communicating concepts though visuals.
